It was a massive win on Saturday by the Arsenal at Ewood Park. We overturned our woeful result of April in the very same ground and won away to a Fat Sam managed team, which we haven’t done since 2002, and that includes the Invincibles.
It’s nice to see us sitting with 7 points after two tough away trips, and to say, we haven’t even hit top form is something nice to know. Last season, we were on top of our game but we had one win and two losses at this very juncture after two away games. Read on..
Emirates was being given its materialistic soul and it was getting its spiritual soul as well. Sounds like an oxymoron. Walcott chose this historic moment to come into his own and if the last match was an exhibition of Rosicky’s prowess then this one turned out to be Walcott’s. Arsenal gave Blackpool a footballing lesson and gave themselves a quantum of solace. Walcott scored his 1st hat-trick and it was a moment to savor. The otherwise so dependable Spainard was in a generous mood. Maybe the ebullience of being crowned World Champions hasn’t phased out a month later. His last minute gift has helped us avoid an opening day defeat, a day on which we played with rhythm but not exactly the killer instinct required to overpower a team like Liverpool in their own den. Before the serious business kickstarts in a fortnight, the Emirates Cup proves a beneficial precursor. Its also an opportunity for the new signings to ease into the squad, and that’s exactly what happened. Marouane Chamakh showed why Wenger so relentlessly pursued him in the transfer market by netting our opening goal against the Italian heavyweights AC Milan. Even then, we were pegged back by an Alexander Pato goal as it finished all square at the Emirates. 11G delves deeper into the contest and into our new #29..
If someone missed out on the last 10 minutes of the game yesterday, he should be forgiven for considering us still in the title race. A Walcott goal and another by Silvestre should’ve seen Arsenal sail through comfortably, getting 3 points bringing them closer to leaders Chelsea. However, the man of the moment, Lukasz Fabianski, like always screwed up the game, & with it the any outside chances for the title.
