King Henry
There are Wingers, there are Forwards, and then there was a Thierry Henry. In August 99’, when Henry arrived at Highbury from Turin having had a torrid time in Juventus, not many were aware of the plethora of talents he possessed. One man did, and that made all the difference. Wenger, who had previously coached Henry at Monaco, was very sure of his compatriot and believed he had in him to make it big in the Premier League. He couldn’t be more right..

26 goals in Season-1 and the skeptics were put shut right there. Then on, the story he scripted at N5 is what folklore’s are made up of. His pace, skills, strength, vision and above all the audacity to do the unthinkable time and again, is what turned Thierry Henry from an ‘Erratic Winger‘ to a ‘Striker Extraordinaire‘. The 226 goals he grabbed with Arsenal were by no means regular tap-ins most strikers procure. Chips, drives, headers, 60-yard surges, and of course the hallmark curl-in right from the edge of the 30-yard area, were some of the means Henry deployed to get the job done. Apart from the goals, it was his assists, which created goals as many for the likes of Wright, Dennis, Pires, Ljungberg etc. He was our Captain, the Dead-ball expert, the Penalty Taker, in short, Arsenal’s Talisman, someone whom opponents and critics loved and cherished in equal vein as his legion of fans across the world. In the 03-04’ season, Henry along with his team mates, played galactic football, taking the Premier League by storm. At times opponents even dreaded taking a corner because the ball would often end up in the back of their own net, given the searing pace with which the Gunners counter-attacked! ‘That’ goal from Vieira at the White Hart Lane is just an example. 39 goals in all, Henry ended the season bagging both the domestic Player of the Year awards and also coming a disputed second for the FIFA World Player of the Year piece. He and Pires formed a deadly duo with 57 goals between them, and with Cole coming in from behind; the triumvirate almost ruled the left side of the pitch. Henry was easily the best in Europe at the time, which ensured, so were the Gunners.
Arsenal won the League that year. Winning the league is one thing, doing so without tasting defeat is something else. History was made and he became a part of it. Arsenal were the ‘Unstoppables’, the ‘Unbeatables’ and Thierry Henry thus became an:
