They came..They played.. and boy did they Conquer!! Something rather Unbelievable happened between 4th may 2003 and 24th October 2004..
11Gunners takes you on a trip down the memory lane Right Now..
Arsenal went through that entire period without losing a single game in the League, 49 games to be exact. An unparalleled achievement in the History of English Football and that too coming in the Modern Era with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea breathing down one’s neck. It was truly a once in a lifetime feat..
Having played extraordinary football in the 2002′-03 season, the frustration of narrowly missing out on the Title simply brought the best out of the team. They were an aggressive outfit capable of intimidating any opposition and under the tutelage of the masterclass of Arsene Wenger, they had developed a fluid, pacy and breathtaking style of football. Simply put, it was something the Premiership had never seen before. The bar had just been raised to the next level.
Arsenal had a rigid defence marshaled by Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure, who had been a revelation once again proving Wenger’s uncanny ability to recognize talent. The experienced Jens Lehmann had the agility to make spectacular saves whenever called into action. Gilberto Silva provided just the right cover for the defence allowing the others to take charge in front. Cole, Pires and Henry were almost unplayable at the left flank. Cole’s pace combined with Pires’s technique and Henry’s pace and calmness annihilated many an opposition teams. You add to that Bergkamp’s precision, Vieira’s dominating presence, Lauren’s darting runs from the defence and Ljungberg’s alacrity and the magnitude of their achievement is hardly a surprise.
The season had some unforgettable memories: The game against Man United in which Van Nistelrooy missed the spot kick was definitely the closest Arsenal had come to losing during that period. The post match brawl and Arsenal’s criticism of it was highly publicized. In reply Arsenal just let their football do the talking. An exhilarating display against Boro and a mauling of Leeds late in the season were days when they made football look just so easy while winning the title at White Hart Lane was an extremely gratifying experience as a Gooner.
However the true display of character was in the 4-2 victory over Liverpool when after having been knocked out from Major Cup Competitions, “The Invincibles” bounced back with panache propelled by a phenomenal display from the “Thierry Henry”! Amidst all of this the most satisfying thing was the quality of football they played. It instilled the belief in why Football is indeed called “The Beautiful Game”!!!
What They Said (Legend’s Quotes) :
“True greatness is in achieving something no one has ever done before and Arsenal have done that and over the 49 games. I’m not sure any team in any Country has ever played such amazing football.”
“The most devastating team in British history. There can be no better Tribute paid than to declare that anyone who enjoys football as “The Beautiful Game” will applaud Arsenal’s triumph.”
“With this Unbeaten team I’m out of my seat, I’m shaking my head, I’m clapping my hands, and I’m still there 30 seconds later or a minute later and people are saying “For goodness sake will you sit down because I can’t see” ,and that has been, I guess I can die a happy man!”
Next week on get a close insight on the “11 Invincibles” and their contribution in making the Dream a Reality..

Golden days those were.. now we struggle to finish off fourth.. hoping for a great season this time on..
You are right, we are struggling. But, AW shouldn’t get bogged down by the downtrend. You can’t expect every one to play like the ‘INVINCIBLES’. This is a new team. The body language of AW isn’t too good in the last season. I want the old Arsene back, the one who kicks fergies’ ass. With that kind of attitude and confidence, the feat can be re-done.
amen
You are right mate. Arsenal needs AW: Reloaded and not AW: Relapsed!
May the Gods be with us. Amen…
@Albus: Hope is a good thing to have mate. Well there will never be another set of the INVINCIBLE’s, but for sure their Lineage will reclaim the top slot this season!
@AK: May the “Beautiful Brand” of Football be with us!
Arsenal: Only they play the Beautiful Game beautifully. Invincibles or otherwise, they are the Best. Other’s may come and go, but Arsenal is for life..
@Mahir
Yeah mate..
U hit the nail on its backside..
Playing the ‘Beautiful Game’ beautifully is all that matters..
Bon Mot’..
